Brunei DPMM FC will look to carry on their confident start to the Great Eastern-YEO’S S.League season when the meet Super Reds at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium, Bandar Seri Begawan on Wednesday night.
This comes after a dramatic opening fixture against the Young Lions, where a last minute goal by Abu Bakar Mahari clinched a point for the Bruneians.
But the match against Super Reds will not be easy, as DPMM coach Vjeran Simunic knows.
“I saw them play and they are a very tall team. It will be like playing against a basketball team. The tallest player in our team is Rene Komar who stands at 180cm.
“Yu Hyun Koo, the midfielder is one of the dangerous players to look out for in the Super Reds team.”
To counter his opponents’ height, Simunic said, “We will have to play the ball on the ground and try to cut off their high ball.”
Coach Simunic is looking forward to the challenge though.
“The S.League is a really good league. This is a serious league, one that is better known and much better than the Malaysian league we used to participate in.
“Because of that and our draw in our first match, the team’s attitude has really changed and they are now charged up.”
Speaking of his respect for his opponents, “I have a lot of respect for the Super Reds team. They finished second last season and I expect a good game.”
To add spice to the encounter, Super Reds coach Jeon Kyeong Joon used to play for DPMM in 2007 while DPMM’s Korean import, Oh Ddog Yi faces his former club where he top-scored with 12 league goals last year.
In either case, the match is much anticipated in both countries and around the region as the S.League takes a bold step in cementing its position as one of the Top 10 leagues in Asia. |
